The FR benefits from having volunteers, however, unless we are all masochists, clearly we volunteers get something out of volunteering - a 'buzz', job satisfaction, learning skills, good social life? Whatever it is, something attracts most of our volunteers back again and again. However, we are aware that there are many people who love the FR, visit the railway, join the Society and ride on the trains, but do not volunteer. There are all sorts of reasons for this - lack of time, poor health or just not realising that they can make a contribution What we are suggesting is that the next time you come to ride of the railway you consider volunteering for just one day. Join in and experience the satisfaction of being part of the running railway - it's the only way you'll find out how the FR ticks. What can I do in just one day?
Dead head flowers or weed in window boxes/tubs or a station garden Paint benches/fences/notice boards - protective clothing supplied Sell ice-cream or serve afternoon tea at Tan-y-bwlch Help with line-side bush bashing or even go out with the 'early start' team 6am - 11am Send out 'mailshots' Penrhyn level crossing gate keeper (to allow staff a day off!) Clean carriages - any day - or join the team on a Sunday morning - just for a few hours! Then admire your good work as you ride on the train!
Help with special events - Vintage, Thomas, Jazz train catering, Galas etc Customer Care at Harbour Station - Meet the customers and help them to enjoy their time at the railway.
Some of these jobs are for only a few hours! Give us just a little of your time so that both you and the railway will reap the benefits. How do I arrange this?Write to the Volunteering Forum at Harbour Station marking your envelope "Just one Day" and make sure you include the date of your visit, your contact phone number and job preference. We will contact you with the details. Or email tricia.doyle@festrail.co.uk with the same details. Or telephone Tricia Doyle on (01766) 516035.
